Green book on forest soon: Biswajit

Imphal, July 08 2022: Maintaining that there are clear cut demarcations of reserved and protected forest areas of the state, Forest and Environment minister Th Biswajit has said that the department will soon make available its green book containing all notifications related to forest and resolutions adopted by state durbar in order to clear misunderstanding among the public.

The minister was attending a ceremonial tree plantation programme organised as part of Hariyali Mahotsav, 2022 at Heingang Reserved Forest, which is one of the oldest reserved forests in Manipur, on Friday.

Hariyali Mahotsav is being observed to create awareness about the importance of trees in sustaining lives and it is perceived as an effective tool to instil enthusiasm among masses for for est conservation and planting trees.

It is observed across the country in recognition of the crucial role of forest/greenery in maintaining the ecological balance and providing many ecosystem services to the planet.

Speaking on the occasion, Biswajit observed that the public sometimes forget the bound ary of reserved and protected forest areas, which could lead to misunderstanding.

Making the green book available to the public could clear such misunderstandings and to provide a clear idea of the forest areas, he maintained.

While cautioning that mankind should never stand against nature but work for protecting it, the minister also informed that the government is carrying out eviction drives in reserved and protected forest areas in the larger interest of the public, especially for the future generations.

It is not against any individual or community, he clarified.

Principal chief conservator of forests and head of forest force Dr AK Joshi, Central Forest Division DFO Amarjit and other department officials also attended the event.

Heingang Awang Leikai Development Committee members also participated in the tree plantation programme.

Minister Biswajit also attended a mass tree plantation drive held on Friday at Waithou protected reserved forest as part of the week-long Vanmahotsav, organised by Thoubal Forest Division.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister reiterated that the Forest Department is targeting to plant 75 lakh saplings in commemoration of the 75th year of India's Independence.

He said human being requires oxygen for survival and to meet that requirement, we must plant more trees.

While commending the students for taking part in the plantation drive, he urged them to plant more trees especially on special occasion like birthdays which will be a pleasant reminder for them when they get matured.

Staff of Thoubal Forest Division, students of Paradise English School and NCC cadets took part in mass tree plantation.
