Over 10 lakhs enrolled for Aadhar cards in Manipur

Imphal, September 07 2014: Under the nationwide initiative for issuing Unique Identification Number in the form of Aadhar Cards to all Indian citizens through the Unique Identification Authority of India, Manipur state has so far enrolled over ten lakh people for the Aadhar Cards.

Total number of people enrolled so far for the Unique Identification Number in Manipur is 10,8,300, as per the record of Unique Identification Authority of India.

As expressed by an official of MANITRON, the tasks for biometric enrolment for issuing Aadhar Cards in the state began in February 2011 with the activities like scanning of finger prints.

In Manipur, MANITRON takes up the task for Biometric enrolment in Imphal west, Imphal east, Tamenglong, Chandel and Churachandpur districts, he said, while adding that the tasks in other districts are taken up by a firm called In Media.

Saying that activities for biometric enrolment has been going on in various localities of the state, the official informed that MANITRON has opened a camp at GM Hall Imphal to facilitate those who have missed the enrolment.

As the enrolment is being done as per the National Population Register, those who are in the census record are given the opportunity to get their Aadhar numbers, he continued, saying that the Biometric enrolment is sent to the Unique Identification Authority of India.

The number of biometric enrolment in Manipur so far is 302607 in Imphal West, 250370 in Imphal east, 165699 in Thoubal, 95930 in Churachandpur, 68643 in Bishnupur, 52048 in Chandel, 31652 in Tamenglong, 27109 in Senapati and 13972 in Ukhrul.

Stating that Aadhar provisional cards have to be issued to each individual after enrolment through the post office, the official said the number of Aadhar cards issued in Manipur so far cannot be known.

While saying that the original Aadhar cards have not been issued in Manipur, he informed that original cards will be issued after making corrections, if any, in the provisional cards through the list of Local Registrar of Usual Residents (LRUR) .

Original cards will bear seals and the identity can be revealed with a card reader machine, he disclosed.

Admitting that biometric enrolment activities are yet to be taken up in various places particularly in the hills, he said that the works for enrolment are going on with 10 teams.

Aadhar card has become a valuable document for identifying a person for various purposes, he added.
