Assam Rifles organised a mass tree plantation drive in association with the village authorities and localites of Sorde village in Kamjong district today.

The state of Manipur is blessed with abundant natural resources and has good forest cover, however the illegal trade of natural resources especially forest produce like timber has led to large scale deforestation and environmental degradation.
Therefore, a mass tree plantation drive has been held to create awareness amongst the locals regarding this issue, said a statement by the Assam Rifles.
Locals including representatives from Sorde village council and students from the Sorde High School actively participated in the mass tree plantation drive organised by the Assam Rifles.
The event started with a welcome note wherein the need for protection of the natural resources especially the forest was emphasised.
Thereafter a total of 1250 saplings were planted during the drive along the Shangshak-Kasong road which is a part of the State Highway 102 A .
