Imphal, July 07 2024:
A Congress delegation comprising All India Congress Committee (AICC) Manipur in-charge Girish Chodankar and Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) working president Victor Keishing visited Kwakta relief camp and met with the family of Angom Premkumar, an internally displaced person from Churachandpur, who was found dead hanging.
Like many others, Premkumar and his family members abandoned their Churachandpur home when the conflict broke out on May 3 last year and had been staying in the relief camp, where he was found dead hanging on Sunday morning.
After learning about the incident, the Congress team visited the camp and met with the bereaved family.
In addition to sharing their grief, MPCC working president Keishing Victor extended monetary assistance to the family.
Both AICC and MPCC leaders advised the government to bring peace and tranquillity in the state as soon as possible to prevent repetition of such unwanted incidents in the future.
Thirty-six years old Premkumar, s/o (late) Angom Kula, originally from Churachandpur Tuibong, was staying in house number PFV/20 at the pre-fabricated housing complex established by the government at Kwakta Sericulture campus.
According to reports, Premkumar was found hanging around 9:15 pm Saturday as fellow camp residents peeped through the window after he did not respond to their calls.
Phoubakchao police were promptly notified, and a forensic team arrived to bring down the body, which was then brought to Imphal for post-mortem examination.
Premkumar left behind his wife and two children, a 10-year old boy and a 6-year old girl.
His wife and children left the camp about 10 days ago to stay at her maternal home.
