Justice committee puts up photos of war heroes at schools, colleges

In order to honour their bravery, the Justice Committee on Anglo Manipuri 1891 Martyrs and Freedom Fighters of Kangleipak (Manipur) has started putting up photographs and names of the war heroes in schools and colleges.
The initiative was kicked off by Joychandra Konthoujam, chairman of the Committee across CC Higher Secondary School, Johnstone Higher Secondary School and GP Women's College in Imphal today under the banner "Heroes of Anglo Manipuri War 1891" .
Joychandra said that the initiative was started to spread awareness about the martyrs who laid down their lives during the aforementioned war among students.
It will be carried out across all schools and colleges of Manipur, he said.
On another note, Joychandra informed that the Committee has been able to identify 120 martyrs and is in touch with 102 of their families.
According to research conducted by the Committee, around 5000 warriors took to the battlefield during the war, out of which approximately 1300 were martyred, he said.
