Ministry scheme benefits state artistes

The ministry of Culture, under its Central Sector scheme 'Financial Assistance for Promotion of Guru-Shishya Parampara (Repertory Grant),' has been supporting cultural organisations engaged in performing arts activities across the country.
The scheme provides financial assistance to organisations involved in training artistes in music, dance, theatre, and folk art under the traditional Guru-Shishya Parampara.
According to the information provided by union minister for culture and tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in a written reply in Rajya Sabha on Thursday, Manipur has seen a significant increase in the number of beneficiaries under the scheme over the past three years.
In the financial year 2021-2022, the state had 149 Gurus and 980 'Shishyas' receiving assistance, which increased to 172 Gurus and 1017 Shishyas in 2022-2023 .
In financial year 2023-2024, Manipur recorded 202 Gurus and 1009 Shishyas benefiting from the scheme.
The scheme, a sub-scheme of the umbrella initiative 'Kala Sanskriti Vikas Yojana (KSVY)', provides financial support to one Guru and up to 18 Shishyas in theatre and one Guru with up to 10 Shishyas in music and dance.
The honorarium for each Guru is Rs 15,000 per month, while Shishyas receive assistance ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 10,000 per month, depending on their age group.
