Water level of major rivers recedes

Imphal, July 05 2024:
With recession of rainfall particularly in catchment areas of rivers flowing through the valley, water level of Imphal, Nambul and Iril rivers have dipped below warning level as per reading taken at 5pm Friday.
As per a report from main flood control room of water resources department, rainfall in Kangpokpi and Litan considered origins of Imphal river and Iril river were recorded at 7mm and 3mm respectively in between 5am to 5pm Friday while there was no rainfall in Saikul area.
Rain gauge station at Raj Bhavan, Imphal recorded rainfall of 6mm on Friday and 7mm at Lamphelpat while there was no rainfall in Jiribam.
Water level of Imphal river recorded at Minuthong at 5pm Friday was 785.800 metres above sea level, less than warning level of 785.900 but the water level of the same river at Lilong bridge was recorded at 781.450 metres, still above danger level of 780.350 metres.
Iril river too recorded below danger level at Irilbung bridge while Nambul river is flowing below danger level at Thong Nambonbi.
Other major rivers like Thoubal and Manipur too are flowing below danger level when readings were recorded at 5pm Friday.
With fall in the water level, two gates of Ithai Barrage have been closed but three are still kept open, the report mentioned.
