Imphal, February 05 2025: Wangoi MLA Kh Loken has stated that NPP MLAs will truly assume the role of opposition in the ensuing state assembly session, while choosing to set aside political differences on state issues.

Meanwhile, HAC chairman MLA Dinganglung Gangmei has urged the Meetei community to embrace the role of a big brother in resolving the crisis.

Speaking at the inauguration of an open gym cum public park at Thiyam Leishangkhong in Wangoi assembly constituency on Wednesday, Loken informed that the party MLAs have received the letter of president Conrad Sangma addressed to the speaker regarding the seat arrangement for the NPP MLAs.

The earlier request of the MLAs to the speaker to reserve their seats in the treasury bench was made due to communication gaps, he clarified.

Following the party president's letter, the NPP MLAs have resolved to shoulder the full responsibilities of an opposition party in the House but will not make political differences an issue when it comes to state issues in the larger interest of the people, he added.

Meanwhile, MLA Loken informed that a plan is afoot to establish open gym cum public parks in as many as 19 locations in his constituency, out of which nine have been completed and four have been inaugurated.

He urged the public to use the facilities with a sense of belongingness.

On the other hand, Hill Areas Committee (HAC) chairman MLA Dinganglung Gangmei, who inaugurated the park as chief guest, observed that the situation is gradually improving in the state and urged the Meetei community to take the role and responsibility of an elder brother to resolve the crisis by forgiving and forgetting.

He said that the state is facing critical issues pertaining to illegal poppy cultivation, drug trade and deforestation, while stressing that sanitising the social evils is a must for a society to move forward.

Reiterating that the state is simultaneously facing an unprecedented crisis, he, nevertheless, urged the public not to get disheartened by the momentary disruption, expressing confidence that the state will bounce back from this crisis and leap forward.

In order to achieve this, he urged the Meetei community to take the role of a big brother and seek solution to the crisis through the approach of forgive and forget.

Dinganglung further said that communications are being made with hill MLAs to explore grounds for resolving the crisis.

"There may be some pressure due to lack of communication and political differences but the issue is like an internal family dispute, which can be resolved," he contended.

The Friends Sporting Union, Thiyam Leishangkhong president Kangabam Rabei and the Union's founding secretary Laishram Achouba were also present at the inauguration function as guests of honour.
