Imphal, December 04, 2008:
Manipur health minister's son who was kidnapped at gunpoint by suspected KCP cadres last night has been released today unharmed after a night detention in their custody, official said Thursday.
However, the condition of his release is yet to be ascertained, according to a highly reliable source.
Yet the kidnapping is assumed to be related with a monetary demand served on the minister.
Okenjeet, the eldest son of the state Health Minister Pheiroijam Parijat was abducted by the gunmen from the minister's residence at Nongada village located some 30 kilometer north-east from Imphal in Imphal east last night around 7.45 pm.
Okenjeet was handed over to the villagers of Samusang located at the remote corner near the hills at around 11.30 am today, official reports said, adding that the villagers along with troops of Assam Rifles posted nearby took him to family members.
One of the kidnappers was reportedly seen carrying an AK 47 rifle.
The minister himself along with other family members except the kidnapped son and his recently married wife are living at the government quarter in Imphal.
