New VLF office building inaugurated at Waiton

Imphal, July 02 2026: The newly constructed office building of Malem Shembi Village Level Federation (VLF) at Waiton Maning Leikai, Imphal East, was inaugurated Thursday by Khundrakpam AC MLA Th Lokeshwar.

A function was held at the local community hall to mark the occasion.

VLF president Wahengbam Manbi Devi, Chairpersons of Waiton Gram Panchayat P Surbala, Haraorou ZP Nongthombam Dijen, Khundrakpam ZP Yangoijam Ojit, Pukhao ZP Laitonjam Oken, Sawombung BDO Sagolsem Indrajit, and officials of Manipur State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MSRLM) attended.

Speaking at the event, Th Lokeshwar said VLFs play a key role in rural development.

He announced plans to organise a fair after the harvest season to showcase products made by VLFs in the AC, adding he would personally award the bestperforming VLF to encourage quality production.

He urged collective efforts to improve product standards.

P Surbala noted that VLFs, through Self Help Groups (SHGs), have been empowering rural women in livelihoods and other sectors.

She said the new office, built with Waiton GP's support, would further strengthen women's initiatives under MSRLM.

Speakers highlighted that VLFs and SHGs are boosting women's skills, confidence, and economic status, contributing to an equitable society.
