Court declares man arrested with drug as convict

Imphal, June 01 2024: The special court (ND & PS) on Saturday declared Khuplal Khongsai, who was arrested by a team of NAB police station on October 20, 2022 with drug, as convict.

Hearing of the case was conducted Saturday at the court of judge Lisa Maibam of special court (ND & PS) Manipur with special PP M Raichand Singh representing the state while M Birbal Singh and A Sachikanta as defence counsels During the hearing, the prosecution side placed before the court that Khuplal Khongsai (65) son of late Zilazan Khongsai of Molnom village, Ukhrul district was nabbed by a team of NAB police station on October 20, 2022 from Kanglatongbi area of Imphal-Dimapur road with 3.048kg Brown Sugar while conducting frisking/checking of a Tata Xenon pickup vehicle (AS 23 BC-6083) coming from the Senapati side.

Accordingly, NSB PS registered a case and conducted investigation as per provisions of ND & PS Act and found accused Khuplal Khongsai guilty.

After patient hearing of submissions from both the sides, the court ruled that the prosecution side brought out all the evidences and found the accused person Khuplal Khongsai guilty under ND & PS Act.

The court also ordered to seize the involved Tata Xenon pickup vehicle (AS 23 BC-6083) and take up necessary action.

The court, however, decided to pronounce the quantum of punishment to be awarded to Khuplal Khongsai on Monday.
