Imphal, August 30 2025:
In a heartfelt effort to promote environmental stewardship and raise awareness about forest conservation, Assam Rifles organised a Tree Plantation Drive at Shangshak Village in Kamjong District, Manipur today.
According to a release issued by the IGAR (South), the initiative, conducted in collaboration with the local community, reflects Assam Rifles' enduring commitment to safeguarding the rich natural heritage of the North East.
Manipur, known for its lush forest cover and ecological diversity, has in recent years faced challenges due to illegal exploitation of forest produce, particularly timber.
Recognising the urgent need to protect these resources, Assam Rifles undertook this outreach to inspire local youth and villagers to become active custodians of their environment.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 51 villagers alongside Assam Rifles personnel, who together engaged in a series of activities aimed at rejuvenating the local ecosystem.
The drive began with a community interaction highlighting the importance of forest preservation and sustainable living.
Participants then joined hands to clean the surroundings in and around the village, preparing the ground for plantation.
A total of 200 saplings were planted in public spaces across Shangshak, symbolising a collective pledge towards a greener future.
The choice of native species ensured ecological compatibility and long-term sustainability.
Village authorities and residents expressed deep appreciation for the initiative, acknowledging Assam Rifles' role in enlightening the community and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.
The event concluded with a renewed sense of unity and purpose, as villagers assured their continued support to Assam Rifles in protecting the region's natural wealth.
