Imphal, July 27 2024:
High Court Bar Association of Manipur (HCBAM) and All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA) felicitated newly appointed Supreme Court of India judge Justice N Kotiswar Singh at City Convention Centre, Palace Compound, here, on Saturday.
The felicitation programme was attended by High Court of Manipur judge Justice A Guneshwar Sharma, Justice Golmei Gaiphulsillu Kabui, Justice Ahanthem Bimol, HCBAM president Y Nirmolchand, AMBA president P Tomcha, Manipur advocate general Lenin Hijam and Bar Council of Manipur chairman S Brajabihari as presidium members.
During the programme, Justice N Kotiswar expressed his desire to work in Manipur as Manipuri even though the day is a special one and recalled his early days of entering the profession when there wasn't a High Court in Manipur and hearing was done at Guwahati High Court.
As the hearing was done only once in a month or two in the High Court, he continued legal practice at lower courts where criminal law and civil law, which are foundation of legal knowledge are learnt, Kotiswar Singh said, while acknowledging his seniors who helped him to reach his present stage in career.
It is impossible to become successful instantly in every profession and it takes a lot of time, he pointed out, while adding that hard work and perseverance is key to success in life.
Justice Kotiswar lamented over loss of lives and properties due to the conflict and displacement of people forcing them to seek shelter in relief camps.
The once harmonious relationship between the hills and valley is today filled with cries.
So, every community should come out and find a way for ending the conflict and restore peace and normalcy in the state, he appealed, while adding that now is not the time to put blame on one another.
Justice N Kotiswar was felicitated by presenting simple gifts.
