Senior Citizens voice concern on ILP issue

Acknowledging that 60 MLAs of Manipur had earlier taken resolutions to pursue for implementation of the Inner Line Permit system in the state on two occasions, the Senior Citizens for Society Manipur has urged the legislators to discuss certain practical ways for implementation of the ILP system in the state during the ongoing state assembly which ends tomorrow.
During a press conference held today afternoon, Prof..LSadananda, General Secretary of the Society strongly condemned the maltreatment of students who were taking part in the agitation by the Police personnel.
Terming the police action of kicking and thrashing of the students as utterly inhuman and un-culture, Prof.Sadananda said the witness of the situation saddened the elders.
The student demonstration which erupted out of the apprehension that indigenous people of Manipur would become minority in their own land, could have been controlled by using other means like the water cannon, without resorting to inhuman thrashing of the students, Sadananda explained and demanded the government to take up disciplinary action against the errant police personnel.
Khaidem Mani, who is also the secretary of the Society, said it is the democratic right of the people in a democracy to undergo peaceful protests.
The police personnel who severely beat the agitators during the movement for ILP implementation should be booked and remanded to custody, he demanded.
Stating that implementation of ILP system in Manipur is the aspiration of the people, Mani expressed his desire that the 60 MLAs put pressure on the central government for the same.
He called upon the legislators to discuss the matter in the state assembly session which ends tomorrow.
