90 arms, 728 ammos recovered in SF Ops

In another significant step towards restoring peace and security in the state, security forces launched coordinated operations at different locations in valley districts of the state in the wee hours Saturday and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition.
Coordinated operations were conducted at various locations in Imphal West, Imphal East, Kakching, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts based on specific intelligence about concealment of large cache of arms, ammunition and warlike materials.
Simultaneous operations at multiple sites in the peripheral and suspected areas by joint security teams comprising of Manipur police, CRPF, BSF, Assam Rifles and Army yielded success with the recovery of 90 firearms and more than 700 ammunition and explosives.

Briefing media persons about the coordinated operations and recovery, IGP (Zone-Il) K Kabib said the recovered weapons include three AK series rifles, one M16 rifle, five INSAS rifles, one INSAS LMG, four SLRs, 20 pistols, four carbines, seven .303 rifles and eight other rifles.
Other weapons recovered in the operations include three anti-riot guns, one lathode gun, three DBBL, six bolt action guns, three two-inch mortars and 20 SBBL/bore action guns.
A total of 728 ammunition and explosives including 21 grenades and six IEDs, besides 21 magazines and 24 wireless handsets were also seized in the operations, he added.
According to K Kabib, Manipur police along with central security forces continued intelligence based operations towards restoring peace and security and to also protect lives and properties of the people.
The coordinated operations conducted in the wee hours Saturday yielded major success with the recovery huge arms and ammunition, he said, adding that senior police officials are communicating with security stakeholders to conduct similar operations anytime.
K Kabib further informed media persons that Saturday's coordinated operation was a significant achievement and it marks a crucial step in the ongoing efforts of security forces to neutralise threats posed by armed groups and bring back peace and normalcy in the state.
"Manipur police is fully prepared to restore peace and protect lives of the people,he said and appealed to people to cooperate with the steps being taken up by police and report to the police control room whenever any suspicious activities are detected.
Notably, a total of 307 firearms of different types were surrendered to Manipur police on February 27 after Governor AK Bhalla called for surrendering weapons looted from security forces.
In a large-scale coordinated operations conducted by Manipur police and central security forces on June 14 at different locations in five valley districts, a total of 328 arms and huge ammunition were recovered.
Coordinated operations by Manipur police and central security forces at different locations in Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Tengnoupal and Chandel districts on July 5 yielded major success with the recovery of 203 firearms different types and huge ammunition and explosives.
In another operation conducted in five valley districts on July 15, joint teams of Manipur police and central security forces recovered 86 firearms and 974 ammunition of different calibre.
