Governor commends role of IBSD in state's development

Governor Anusuiya Uikey has said that the Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal has been working towards making a self-sustained and developed Manipur.
Speaking at the consultation programme on 'Bio-economy from Bioresources: Developing Women Entrepreneurship' organised by IBSD, Imphal at the institute located at Takyel on Wednesday, she noted out that since its inception, IBSD is engaged in research activities and several outreach programmes to fulfil the mission of bioresource development and their sustainable utilisation through biotechnological interventions for socio-economic development of t he North Eastern Region.
It is working on integrated studies for documentation of biore sources of Northeast and their scientific validation, value addition so as to promote innovations and to promote bioeconomy with various approaches to fulfil the vision of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' and 'Developed India', she explained, while adding that IBSD has organised Industry-Connect programmes in many states of the North Eastern region including Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim, Meghalaya to develop collaboration between industries and the Institute.
As such, several outreach activities for promoting Bio-economy from Bioresources for farmers', traditional healers, women entrepreneurs of North Eastern region and running several programmes to promote local bioresources among school/college students of North Eastern region have been organised.
The Governor further called upon the institute for conducting training programmes for women in the relief camps so that their innovation and entrepreneurship skills can be developed and will be helpful in their socio-economic sustainability.
While mentioning the role of scientific research institutes like IBSD, CAU, etc., she said that a close coordination is highly needed to ensure viable research innovations towards tapping the huge potential of bioresources in the state.
The Governor also distributed candle making materials to women entrepreneurs in the programme attended by IBSD director Prof Pulok Kumar Mukherjee, CAU vice chancellor Dr Anupam Mishra and Science and Technology secretary Hungyo Worshang.
