Foundation laid for Nongthombam Sagei Shanglen

Imphal, June 24 2026: The foundation stone laying ceremony for the new Shanglen of the Nongthombam sagei of 'Mangang Salai' was held today at the ancestral site in Khurai Ningthoubung.

Nongthombam Sagei Committee president N Singhajit, secretary Dr N Premananda, Shanglen Construction Committee chairman N Rajendro, convenor N Phulindro, and treasurer N Jugin attended the event.

Speaking on the occasion, N Singhajit said the annual ritual for the progenitor of Nongthombam sagei is traditionally observed on the fifth day of 'Enga' month.

The absence of a proper Shanglen at the ancestral site has long caused inconvenience, forcing rituals to be held elsewhere during monsoon, he said.

He added that the construction aims to resolve these difficulties.

Once completed, the Shanglen will serve as a permanent ritual venue and also help establish the distinct identity of Nongthombam sagei within 'Mangang Salai' and among other Salais.
