Govt mulls migration support centre

Secretary (skill, labour, employment and entrepreneurship) N Bandana said that the state government is planning to open a migration support centre to aid youth seeking employment in foreign countries.
Highlighting that over 2 lakh youths in the state are seeking jobs, she urged the youth to avail benefits of the government's employment linked skilling programmes.
She made the announcement while flagging off 28 youths including IDPs trained in the field of assistant electrician under PMKVY by Bhubon Technical and Skill Development (BTSD) Pvt Ltd, at Lamdeng Khunou, Lamsang.

The said youths were offered placement offer letter and left for Goa to join their work places on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Bandana informed that the Centre has sanctioned over 6000 seats for skill training for the state under PMKVY keeping in view of the people affected by the crisis.
So far, around 4500 youths have been trained in different fields.
Apart from the scheme, there are other skill development training programmes targeted by the government in collaboration between district administration and line departments, she informed.
Bandana further said that over 2 lakh unemployed youths are registered in employment exchange.
Total number of sanctioned posts under the state government is only around 80,000 and only a portion of them are lying vacant, she said urging the youth to acquire skills in different fields instead of just waiting for government jobs.
There is a huge gap bet ween supply and demand in the job market in the state.
Having skill in different field could provide placement opportunity for youths in foreign countries.
In order to facilitate youths to avail such opportunities, the government is planning to set up a migration support centre to assist them in security visa and passport among other services, she added.
BTSD Pvt Ltd chairman Naorem Nabachandra said that the training centre was established in 2015 under PMKVY through Manipur Society for Skill Development to provide skill training to youths at free of cost.
The training centre has provided job placement to several youths in different five star hotels and companies in different states of the country so far, he added.
He also informed that 540 youths have been trained in the field of front office and assistant electrician during the period of March, 2024 to January, 2025, and of them, placement has been offered to 316 candidates.
