Imphal, September 23 2024:
Delhi Manipuri Society (DeMAS), Meetei Heritage Society and Ningols United Progressive Initiative (NUPI) have jointly submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister for protection of Meetei civilians and taking up action against armed Kuki terrorists.
In the joint memorandum, the three organisations urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi for personal intervention to prevent further violence in the state, safeguard the lives and properties of innocent civilians, uphold the territorial integrity of Manipur and protect national security.
Pointing out that the on-going crisis in Manipur, which began with the burning of Meetei villages in Churachandpur on May 3, 2023, saw a relative return to normalcy due to the intervention of the central and state governments, they informed that on August 31, 2024, Kuki-Zo civil society organisations carried out nation-wide rallies demanding separate union territory with a legislative assembly a long- standing demand rooted in a larger project to establish a sovereign Christian nation (Zogam/Zalengam/Kukiland) by breaking Manipur and India.
Subsequently, from September 1, 2024 onward, armed Kuki terrorists launched unprecedented coordinated attacks on Meetei civilians, resulting in four deaths and injuring over a dozen, the memorandum denounced, while pointing out that KSO president Poajakhup Guite had admitted on national media about developing missiles and targeting Meetei civilians.
They demanded to investigate the involvement of KSO, its office bearers and armed Kuki terrorists behind the attacks on Meetei civilians using drone bombs and rocket attacks, abrogate the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement signed with Kuki outfits due to their repeated violations of ground rules of the agreement, declare organisations involved in the attacks as terrorist organisations and launch a concerted crackdown on armed Kuki terrorists and neutralise their nexus with foreign anti-India forces involved in the on-going crisis in Manipur.
