Considering the assurances given by the state Government and also in view of the problems face by the people due to the bandh in Assam's Golaghat area as well as the onset of monsoon, All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) today decided to suspended its indefinite economic blockade which came into effect from last midnight for 10 days with immediate effect.
While showing appreciation to the state government for considering the issue of the tribals with regard to Central Educational Institution (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act 2012, President of the student body Emboi Serto announced that the economic blockade enforced along all national highways passing through the state has been suspended for 10 days since the state Government has acknowledged the sentiment of the tribal people.
"But we will be compelled to resume the agitation if no positive sign is forthcoming from the state government", warned Emboi, while adding that ATSUM will not compromise nor negotiate if the demand of the tribal people is neglected.
He further said that the assurance of the MU authority that the order of the Academic Council will be revoked at the earliest is welcome and ATSUM will eagerly wait for the implementation of the Act.
The Act which should have been implemented during 2012 -13 academic sessions but kept in cold storage for the last two years, Emboi pointed out, while adding that this Act does cover not only MU but also CAU which is a central university.
