Imphal, February 23 2025:
Former chief minister N Biren resigned on his own volition and will not return as chief minister again, stated Keirao MLA Lourembam Rameshwar.
MLA Rameshwar along with Wangkhei MLA Th Arunkumar, Meetei Laining Lup (MLL) 'supreme' leader Chingsubam Mono Meetei, IMC Ward No 23 corporator L Romola Devi and social activist Moirangthem Prafulo inaugurated newly constructed 'Meetei Shanglen' at Khurai Ahongei in Wangkhei assembly constituency on Sunday.
On the sidelines of the event, media persons raised a query to MLA Rameshwar if there will be split in BJP legislators after the party failed to elect a new leader unanimously in the wake of resignation of chief minister N Biren Singh.
In his reply, MLA Rameshwar said he had difference with former chief minister N Biren personally but there is no difference of opinion among BJP MLAs.
Efforts are being made to elect a new leader in consultation with BJP state president to form a new government and it is hoped that party's central leadership will appoint a new leader and form government.
Even if there is no such appointment from the central leadership, a new leader from among the MLAs will be elected to the form government after consulting the BJP state president, he said.
To another query regarding obstruction from party's central leadership to form a new government despite the party commanding the majority, Rameshwar replied that he has no such knowledge either from party's central leadership or from state president.
Nevertheless, young MLAs of the party being representatives of the people are gathering at a place together to honour the people's wish, he added.
In his address at the event, MLA Th Arunkumar said political chaos prevailed in the state in the wake of resignation of chief minister N Biren.
He said that the President's Rule might had been imposed to prevent violation of constitutional norms amid the efforts to form a popular government.
Nevertheless, legislators are consulting both the central and state leaders to form a new government as per the wish of the people, he added.
Regarding the 'Meetei Shanglen', the MLA said the sacred shrine for believers of Meetei religion was developed by late Meetei leader Chingsubam Akaba and renovated under his initiative.
