Imphal, October 22 2024:
All Manipur GP level and LAMPS PACS Development Association has alleged that farmers' societies are being made to default on their Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loans, suspecting a ploy to strip them of their voting rights on the basis of deficit share capital.
In a press meet held at Manipur Press Club here Tuesday, Association's working president S Nilka-mal said that when officials of the Board of Management of Manipur State Cooperative Bank (MSCB) Limited published the election notification only in the newspapers, they failed to serve the information to other districts DCO-ARC concerned.
"As such, one cannot help but suspect the intent to conduct the election without providing any information to the societies operating in the peripheries".
Mentioning about sanction of numerous KCC loans by the Bank under NAB-ARD, he said that without giving any prior warning, the loans were labelled NPAs and societies barred from the eligible list for the elections, terming them as defaulters.
"Fortunately, the beneficiaries for the KCC loans used their own accounts instead of the society's accounts.
This also begs the question how the societies could be labelled as defaulters," he wondered.
In light of the circumstances, Nilkamal urged for granting the voting rights to the "defaulter'' societies and rescheduling the dates of the election of MSCB Limited.
