Imphal, August 22 2024:
Former chief minister O Ibobi Singh, who currently represents Thoubal assembly constituency in the Manipur Legislative Assembly, stressed on the importance of bringing the communities in conflict to the negotiating table for finding amicable solution to the on going strife in the state.
Responding to media queries on the sidelines of paying tribute to his predecessor Rishang Keishing, O Ibobi said that the present crisis is an outcome of the irresponsibility of the state government.
The crisis can be resolved only when both warring sides lay down their weapons and engage indialogue.
The present scenario in the state where there is a clear divide between the valley and hills, was never seen during the Congress rule, he said.
Ibobi also stated that the FMR, which is purportedly claimed to have been scrapped, is governed by international law and cannot be unilaterally annulled by any single country.
The state government needs to clarify to the public whether the FMR has indeed been scrapped or not, he opined.
The 7th death anniversary of Rishang Keishing was organised by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) at Congress Bhawan, here, on Thursday.
The observance marked by offering of floral tributes to the photo of late Rishang Keishing was attended by O Ibobi, who is also CLP leader, MPCC president K Meghachandra and other members of the party.
Speaking at the event, O Ibobi recounted that Rishang Keishing served the people of Manipur as the chief minister for an extended period.
He was also the first Member of Parliament from Manipur after the adoption of Constitution following India's independence.
The party is observing his 7th death anniversary to honour his significant contributions to Manipur, he informed.
O Ibobi further said that Rishang Keishing was a capable leader who firmly believed in the unity of Manipur, maintaining that all communities in the state are Manipuris and must live together in harmony.
Rishang Keishing dedicated his life in upholding the territorial integrity of Manipur and his principles must continue to guide us.
While citizens of a democratic country have the right to express their opinions, no community should oppose Rishang Keishing's principles or seek the disintegration of Manipur.
It is the responsibility of current and future generations to uphold and protect his ideals, he maintained.
