Foundation stone laid for Nupi Lan statue in Assam

Imphal, August 21 2026: Sekmai Assembly Constituency MLA Heikham Dingo on Friday laid the foundation stone for a statue commemorating Nupi Lan at Madurgram Meira Sanglen in Assam.

The foundation stone-laying ceremony was organised by the Assam Manipuri Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (AAMMPAL) and attended by MLA H Dingo Singh as chief guest.

AAMMPAL president Beni Mishra presided over the function.

Retired Assam Government secretary RK Gopalsana, Assam MDC chairperson Reena Singha, UPF Manipur advisor Khomdram Ratan, UCM president YK Dhiren, UPF Manipur president N Rupachandra and social worker N Budhachandra attended the event as guests of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA H Dingo expressed gratitude to the Meitei community in Assam for inviting him to various community programmes.

He said the proposed Nupi Lan statue in Silchar would be a matter of pride for the Meitei and Meitei Pangal communities residing in Assam and would serve as a reminder of the historic role played by Manipuri women in the Nupi Lan movements.
