Imphal, April 21 2026 : Unknown persons fired at least three rounds of bullets at the residence of Yuva Janata Dal United Manipur Unit vice president Birkamelzelzit Thiyam at Takyel Kolom Leikai, under Lamphel police station in the early hours today.

The incident occurred at around 2 am.

Sources said the residential gate has at least three bullet marks, and police have recovered three bullet casings from the scene.

While the reason behind the "attack" is not known, the Yuva Janata Dal Manipur State Unit has meanwhile condemned it and urged groups or individuals concerned to shed any differences with its vice president through dialogue.

Birkamelzelzit also condemned the firing and appealed to the groups or individuals concerned not to repeat such acts in the future.
