Winners of literary contest announced

Imphal, August 20 2026: Facebook literary groups 'Shairenggi Irenbung' and 'Warimachagi Taibang' on Thursday announced the results of the 2026 Online Manipuri Poetry and Short Story Competition, coinciding with the 35 th Manipuri Language Day celebrations.

The Irenbung Poetry Award 2026 was conferred upon Moirangthem Netrajit Meetei for his poem "Ram Mangkhraba Lamdamsida", Joyshankar Heisnam for "Thiri Eina", and Tony Telheiba Tourangbam for "Thoudang" .

In the Short Story category, Shyama Tongbram won the Thounaojam Dhanibabu Short Story Award 2026 for "Punsina Punsibu", Rakesh Naorem won the Sinam Tanubabu Short Story Award 2026 for "Kari Matouno Ema?", and Rita Thokchom won the Thounaojam Jati Short Story Award for "Numit Taretni-do".

The awards include citations and cash prizes.

The contest, first held in 2020, aims to encourage new Manipuri writers.

Juries included Lairenlakpam Shrutikumar, Dr Mangala Laishram and Prof Haorongbam Rajmani for poetry, and Naorem Amuyaima.

Kshetrimayum Bir and Bimabati Thiyam for short stories.
