Class XII exam results on May 22, Class X in June
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, May 20 2023: The Education De-partment has taken up all possible steps to help the 4747 displaced students from Pre-Primary to Class XII currently staying in relief camps return to normal life, said Education minister lla Basanta Kumar.

The minister also an-nounced that the Class XII examination conducted by the Council of Higher Sec-ondary Education (C,oHSEM) will be declared on May 22 (Monday) around 3pm while explaining that results for Class X examination had to be delayed as the examiners for various language subjects have been displaced.

However, a meeting in this regard was held on Satur-day, where it was decided to allow teachers who have volunteered to be examiners to camp at a safe location for 24 hours to finish the exam-ination of the answer scripts.

Thus, the results for Class X examination will likely be declared by June first week, Basanta Kumar conveyed.

Briefing media persons at the conference hall of DIPR here on Saturday, minister Basanta said that the gov-ernment takes the welfare of students affected by the violence and staying in relief camps seriously.

As per the surveyconducted by the Edu-cation Department under the supervision of CM N Biren in relief camps in both the hills and the valley, around 4747 students from Pre-Primary to Class XII have been displaced by the violence.

He continued that of the total, 932 are from Kangpok-pi, 67 from Jiribam,199 from Thoubal, 648 from Imphal West, 25 from Wangoi, 501 from Imphal East, 2217 from Bishnupur, 92 from Chura-chandpur and 66 from Kakch-ing.

The Department is also checking if any students have been left out of the survey.

The minister then in-formed that from Monday onwards, notebooks, pens, pencils, sports materials and uniforms will be distribut-ed to the displaced students housed in relief camps.

Since the displaced students are not in possession of their text books, the same will be made available to all by the govern-ment after collecting from bookstores and other various sources.

Volunteer teachers will be deputed to the relief camps in consultation with the camps' volunteers, CSOs and clubs to organise coach-ing classes from 10 am to 1pm, despite the summer vacation to make up the learning gap of the affected students.

He continued: "Free trans-fer and admission of the dis-placed students Class IX to XII will be allowed to the nearest schools of their choice, pro-vided seats are vacant in the particular school.

In case of non-availability of seats, ar-rangements will be made in other nearby schools.

Similar arrangements will be made for admission of students of other classes as well.

If the students want to continue in their old schools, tablets will be purchased from available government funds to allow distance learning.

As of now, some tablets have been pur-chased and for the remaining, major companies will be re-quested to provide as specific package under their CSR".

For students wanting to study in private schools, an application should be submit-ted to the Director (Schools) through the ZEO requesting for transfer to their desired school, he said.

The minister then urged the students not to be de-motivated, adding that the government will take up all possible steps for the welfare of the students and ensure their right to education.

As the summer vacation has been declared till May 31, most schools are being utilised as relief camps.

Since there is a need to resettle the displaced people in re-lief camps to suitable loca-tions, the summer vacation could be extended.

Even if the session is delayed, efforts will be made to maintain the academic schedule of the students, Basanta Kumar assured.

Meanwhile, for students who want to take admission for Class XI outside the state, the government will write to the HRD ministry to allow the admissions despite the delay.

He expressed firm belief that the Ministry will understand the circumstances.
