Emergency services crippled in JNIMS

Imphal, July 19 2014 : Emergency services in Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) here have been badly affected after the Teachers' Association of JNIMS kicked-off a three-day cease work strike on Saturday to register protest against the joint action committee (JAC) seeking justice in Leimapokpam Ongbi Roma death case.

Leimapokpam Ongbi Roma died on July 15 last after she underwent surgical operation for delivery of her third child at JNIMS on July 9. She was discharged from the hospital on July 14 .

She hailed from Kiyamgei Maning Leikai in Imphal East.

The operation was conducted by Dr Bidhumukhi Devi, resident of Haobam Marak Keisham Leikai in Imphal West.

Blaming Dr Bidhumukhi for the death of Roma, anguished members of the JAC against the unnatural death of Roma brought her dead body and kept it at the courtyard of the doctor's residence on July 17 after the post mortem.

"We condemn the act of the JAC," said Prof T Rajen, vice-president of the Teachers' Association of JNIMS.

He said investigation is on to find out the truth behind the death of Roma and if negligence is detected during the probe the doctors responsible for the death will have to be punished under the law.

Prof Rajen, however, said threatening doctors whenever a patient dies at hospital is unfortunate.

He also informed that the association has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister urging him to provide security protection to Dr Bidhumukhi.
