Imphal, April 18 2025:
Congress should stop trying to fool the public in connection with the National Herald case.
If Congress sincerely believes and respect the judiciary, it should be patient and respect whatever judgement the Supreme Court passes on April 25, which would be good for the party, advised Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Manipur Pradesh vice president Nimbus Nongthombam.
Denouncing Congress' accusations levelled against the PM Modi-led BJP government regarding the National Herald case, in a press meet held at BJP's Nityaipat Chuthek office here on Friday, Nimbus pointed out that a political party is not a firm and should not involve in contract or supply.
It operates on the money donated by those who love the party.
As such, the money of all political parties recognised by ECI is people's money.
He recounted that circa 1938, the money collected from the people was used by first PM Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and other leaders of the freedom Struggle to establish Associate Journal Limited (AJL) and publish three newspapers -National Herald, Navjeenam and Qaumi Awaz.
Nimbus continued that newspapers played a key role in the independence struggle.
However, AJL which had around 5000 freedom fighters and nationalists under the leadership of Pandit Nehru became like a family business of the Gandhi family.
In 2008, the three newspapers mysteriously closed down with a huge debt.
The Young Indian Private Limited (YIL) was then set up in 2010 with both Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi having around 76 per cent shares, and Oscar Fernandes and Motilal Bora holding the remaining shares.
During the term of PM Dr Manmohan, Dr Subramaniyam Swami filed a PIL in 2012 and the National Herald case had been going on since then.
This case was not taken up after BJP came to power.
In 1955-56, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was established which was not in the time of BJP government.
In any country, there should be an agency to monitor the right and wrong.
Thus, ED took up the case to bring out the truth, he elaborated.
Terming as unwarranted repeated accusations by Congress that BJP is misusing ED to harass its (Congress) leaders, Nimbus said that discussions and debates are being held across the country over the past few days with regard to the National Herald case.
ED has already filed a chargesheet against the Congress leaders on April 15 and the hearing will commence on April 25 .
Ahead of this, some Congress leaders are trying their level best to portray ED in bad light and manipulate the law and public opinion in their favour, he opined.
Nimbus continued that various scams occurred during the Congress rule.
Each time, Congress workers remained silent as the Gandhi family was not affected.
However, now that some of political leaders from the family are involved in the case, the party workers are causing chaos and trying to mislead the people.
BJP Manipur Pradesh strongly condemns such acts, he said, while urging all to respect and obey whichever ruling the Supreme Court gives on April 25.The press meet was also attended by BJP spokesperson MLA Kh Ibomcha and general secretary P Premananda Meetei.
