Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Friday said that under the previous Congress regime Manipur was known for the wrong reasons.
People used to add prefixes like "insurgency-hit" and "a state of blockade" before writing Manipur while the change is visible under the BJP government.
"Once recognized to be a state of blockades and insurgency, Manipur has now started walking in the path of development heralded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
There are no blockades now and insurgency has been neutralized to a major extent," said Deb while addressing a public meeting of booth-level workers at Kumbi assembly constituency in Bishnupur district.
Deb said, the Manipur government used to incur a loss of Rs 2,000 crore per annum for the frequently staged block ades - something that is elusive in the present day Manipur.
Taking a dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Deb said, for the Congress party leader, Northeast does not exist.
"Under the Congress rule, only 6 percent of people in this state used to get tap water in their households.
Today, 60 percent of the state has tap water facilities installed in their households.
About 85 percent of people are lifting ration digitally.
The empowerment is visible and the changes brought about by the BJP in Manipur can never be ignored," said Deb.
Deb hit the campaigning trail in the poll-bound Manipur and addressed a rally of booth committee workers in support of BJP candidate Premchandra Singh.
On the other-hand, Union minister for women and child development Smriti Zubin Irani attracted attention of the BJP supporters as she participated in a Kabui folk dance organised to welcome her at an interaction programme cum political conference organised for BJP candidate of Wangkhei assembly constituency Okram Henry held at Chingmeirong Sinam Mandav on Friday.
Smriti Irani, who was on stage along with Okram Henry and BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra, came down on seeing the mesmerising Kabui folk dance and danced to the tune of folk music.
Participants of the event applauded the gesture of the union minister, who was also a successful television actor before joining politics.
Later, while addressing the gathering, Smriti Irani urged the people of Wangkhei to elect BJP candidate while assuring to work towards welfare of the public.
Ever since BJP came into power in the state, its people no longer endure the hardships they faced during Congress rule.
Highway blockades, long queues in front of petrol pump and fake encounters have become history.
During Congress rule, Gandhi family looted the public money and on the other hand the BJP government used the public money for public welfare.
LPG connection had remained a dream for poor families under Congress government but today it has become a household commodity.
Gandhi family comes to the state to rob its resources while Modi comes with welfare programmes and development projects.
Financial assistance of Rs 6000 annually to farmers is a new scheme launched by the Modi government, she said.
Modi government also provided ration and Covid vaccine at free of cost during Covid-19 pandemic, she added.
Smriti then assured to provide scooty and laptop to girl students free of cost if BJP retains power in the state.
She also assured to set up an AIIMS in the state while urging for public support to BJP.
Okram Henry said that he had remained in Congress party for 15 years but left the party for the sake of the state and its people.
He did whatever he could for the welfare of the people during his short stint as minister, he said and called upon the people to support BJP if they want a bright future for their children.
