Imphal, January 18 2009: THE THREE-DAY long photo exhibition "Manigi Khonjel" organized by the Threatened Indigenous People Society (TIPS) in association with the Youth Progressive Front, Yaingangpok in Imphal east district kicked off on Friday last concluded today with a convention.

The convention held with the theme "Right to life" was attended by the member of the Manipur Human Rights Commission Ng Nongyai as chief guest.

President YPF, Yaingangpokpi, Soraisam Bedajit, president of the Yaingangpokpi Meira Paibi Lup Sagolsem Ranihal Leima, vice principal AIMS Bimol Laishram, TIP consultant Angomcha Araba, Times of India correspondent K Saroj, TIPS president, Ashalam Khan, Kh Ibomcha and Ph Nimai also attended the function.

Speaking as chief guest, Nongyai said that the right of a man is not to be given by other, it is accompanied from birth and if it is not given, then it should be demand.

Only the killings do not mean violation of rights.

Non-availing of power, water, study and healthcare system are also within the violation of rights, he added.

In the insurgency infested Manipur, there arises many conflicting situation.

If government think of ending the insurgency problem through political dialogue then there need a "responsive government", he observed.

So, government should have a firm commitment while inviting the insurgent outfits to come forward for political dialogue and like done in Assam, Manipur government should also constitute a body comprising of representatives of all works of life and open for dialogue to the insurgents, he insisted.

While stating on the objective of organizing the function, TIPS general secretary Asemcha Tondon said the photo exhibition and convention aim at giving awareness on the impacts given to the society by the violation of rights of the people and to arm the people to face the conflicting situation.

He also termed the AFSPA as "Racial law" and said that by enforcing the Act, there is no democracy in the north eastern region of the country.

He also appealed the people to extend solidarity with the cause of Sharmila in her continuous eight year fasting and press the government to repeal it with one voice.

In today's convention TIPS consultant Angomcha Aramba talked on the legal, constitutional and human right and K Saroj, correspondent, Times of India talked on the role of media in the present situation of Manipur.
