Thoubal, August 17 2026:
The Students' Union of Sangaiyumpham Higher Secondary School has urged the concerned authorities to immediately depute adequate teachers to the school within five days, warning of intensified agitation if the demand is not met.
In a release, the Union said the shortage of teachers has created fear and anxiety among students, particularly those preparing to appear for the Class X and XII examinations conducted by BOSEM and COHSEM, as they are concerned that their syllabi may remain incomplete.
Questioning whether the school was being left out of the Government's "School Fagathansi Mission", the Union said the school has 24 sanctioned lecturer posts as per its requirements, but only nine lecturers are currently available, leaving 15 posts vacant.
It further pointed but that there is presently not a single teacher for five subjects - English, Manipuri, History, Geography and Economics.
The Union said that although 582 contract lecturers were recently regularised and arrangements for posting and transfers were made, repeated requests to the authorities to provide the remaining teachers, or at least one teacher for each subject, had gone unheeded.
How can education be imparted without teachers?" the Union questioned, urging the authorities to take immediate action to address the shortage.
The Union appealed to the concerned authorities to depute adequate teachers to the school within five days.
Failing this, it warned that students, along with parents and guardians, would launch various forms of democratic agitation from August 22.The Union stated that the authorities would be held responsible for any consequences arising from the agitation if the shortage of teachers was not addressed within the stipulated time.
