Limit Yaoshang festivities to five days: AMESCO, AMACSU, MNKL

Imphal, February 17 2026: As part of their efforts to preserve Meitei traditions and customs, the All Manipur Ethical Socio-Cultural organisation (AMESCO), Manipur Art & Culture Students' Union (AMACSU), and Manipur Nat Kanba Lup (MNKL) have made a public appeal to limit Yaoshang celebrations to five days.

In a press release, AMESCO, AMACSU and MNKL have urged the public to restrict Thabal Chongba events to the five days of Yaoshang; ensure that Thabal Chongba is conducted appropriately, prohibiting questionable attire and preserving its traditional elements; avoid splashing dirty water on passersby; ensure that Yaoshang sports prizes are replaced by locally made items; avoid questionable clothing during entertainment programmes at the closing of Yaoshang sports; include indigenous sports and games such as Mukna, Yubi Lakpi etc and organise a separate Thabal Chongba for transwomen.
