SSUM threatens stir if NIT issue not resolved

The on-going issue at National Institute of Technology (NIT), Lamphel has greatly humiliated the contractual teachers apart from affected the career of students.
As such, Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) president S Yaima Meetei has urged the registrar, director and governor to work together with the relevant authority for resolving the issues at the earliest, failing which the Union would launch intense agitations.
While addressing newspersons at the NIT gate on Friday after meeting the director and registrar of the Institute during a visit to look into the protests being staged by NIT contract teachers, Yaima stated that it came to weigh reason behind the teachers' protest since August 13, as was announced in a press release.
He continued that SSUM members urged the director and registrar to resolve the matter at the earliest.
Stating that the occurrence of such issues not only affects the academic career of students but is also humiliating the efforts and sacrifices of the teachers, Yaima cautioned that any further delay in resolving the matter could lead to more intense agitations.
He then urged the former board of directors, the director and the registrar to continue with their work, while remarking that even if the education sector requires a change, it should not be done haphazardly.
Yaima also urged authority concerned to resolve the issues being faced by the contractual teachers, who are boycotting classes, in the interest of the affected students.
