Thoubal, November 15 2025:
Aggrieved by the authority's failure to depute a principal and vice-principal for Heirok Higher Secondary School, students locked the gate and set school furniture ablaze today in protest.
Notably, after locking the school gate, a large of students set some school furniture on fire within the campus itself.
Speaking in this connection, Class XI student Ningthoujam Paikhomba said that they met with the Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal twice with a request to assign and send a principal and vice-principal for the school.
Though the Thoubal DC assured to act on the issue promptly, no school officials have been sent till date, resulting in today's protest, he added.
Further, pointing out that the school did not have a Home Science teacher for the entire year, he questioned how students are expected to learn without teachers.
"Principals come to the school temporarily but all eventually end up leaving", said Paikhomba.
He cautioned that if the concerned authority does not depute a principal and vice-principal and plug the shortage of teachers in the school, intense forms of agitation will be launched.
During today's protest, the students shouted various slogans highlighting their demand.
