Shija Blood Center honours donors on World Blood Donor Day 2026

Shija Blood Center and Transfusion Services observed World Blood Donor Day 2026 on June 14 at Shija Auditorium, Langol, under the theme "One Drop of Humanity.
Give Blood.
Save Lives" .
The programme was graced by Dr A Barindra Sharma, Professor, Transfusion Medicine, RIMS, as chief guest; Dr L Dayalaxmi, State Nodal Officer, State Blood Cell, NHM Manipur, as guest of honour; and Dr Jugindra Sorokhaibam, Director, Medical Sciences, Shija Hospitals, who presided.
Delivering the keynote, Dr Chetan Khundongbam, Secretary, Shija Foundation, said donated blood transcends caste and identity, reflecting true humanity.
Dr Dayalaxmi noted Manipur has five Government and two private blood centres and lauded donors for their selfless service.
Moirangthem Premjit Singh, president, Helping Hands for People, said voluntary donation is only 30% of total supply and urged new strategies.
Dr Barindra Sharma suggested incentives for regular donors, while Dr Jugindra highlighted Kerala's schoolcollege competition model to boost voluntary donation.
Twelve apheresis donors, 30 repeat donors, and 13 donor organisers were felicitated.
Attendees pledged regular donations.
Shija Blood Center also announced a new apheresis unit that will cut donation time from nearly four hours to 60-90 minutes.
Dr S Hemabati Devi proposed the vote of thanks.
