SC begins hearing on IP, CP case

Imphal, May 15 2024:
Hearing on the special leave petition filed in the Supreme Court of India against the interim judgement of the High Court of Manipur on forming administrative committee to administer Zilla Parishad and Gram Panchayat began Wednesday with next hearing of the petition fixed on July 9 .
The special leave petition filed by Pheiroijam Heramani and others as petitioners challenged the interim judgement of the High Court passed on February 29, 2024 directing the government of Manipur to constitute administrative committees to operate Zilla Parishad and Gram Panchayat of the state till conduct of election.
Hearing of the special leave petition began at the two-member bench of the Supreme Court comprising justices Surya Kant and KV Biswanathan.
While senior advocate Kapil Sibal is counsel for the petitioners, advocate general Lenin Singh Hijam represented the respondent, Manipur government during the hearing.
The petitioners approached the apex court for annulling the interim order of the high court and appealed for allowing Panchayat and Zilla Parishad representatives to function as usual.
