Imphal, July 14 2026:
In a major milestone for reproductive healthcare in the State, Manipur's first fibro-adenomyosis surgery using microwave ablation technology was successfully performed today.
The procedure was carried out by Cerulean MediVital in collaboration with Suba Hospital & Assisted Reproductive Centre.
As per a release issued by Cerulean MediVital, the patient is a 38-year-old married woman suffering from primary infertility due to fibroids and adenomyosis coexisting on the posterior wall of her uterus, a condition commonly called fibro-adenomyosis.
The surgery was performed by Dr Wahengbam Indibar, MS (Obstetrics & Gynaecology), IVF specialist and advanced laparoscopic surgeon with over 13 years of experience.
The minimally invasive, transvaginal procedure was guided by ultrasound and had a total ablation time of less than 20 minutes.
Cerulean MediVital, the healthcare consultancy, sales and rental division of Indian Orient 2025, provided the microwave technology for the surgery.
Speaking on the occasion, founder of Cerulean MediVital, Ajay Chanam said Manipur has the potential to emerge as a medical tourism hub for patients from Northeastern States and neighboring countries like Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.
"We will continue to work with the state's healthcare sector to enable more accessible, efficient, and future-ready care", he said.
Dr Wahengbam Indibar added that microwave ablation offers new hope for couples facing primary infertility for over a year due to adenomyosis, fibroids, submucosal fibroids, chocolate cysts or endometriomas that are difficult to operate on.
Fibroids and adenomyosis occur together in 15% to 57% of cases, often causing severe pelvic pain, bloating and heavy bleeding.
Doctors say treatment requires a tailored approach involving medical therapy, minimally invasive procedures, or surgery.
