Imphal, September 13 2024:
While informing that the committee along with concerned people inspected the deteriorating conditions of Ingourok and Kakmayai rivers on September 10, North Eastern Environmental Protection Committee (NEEPC), Thoubal district directed removal of machines and excavated sand and stones from the area within September.
In a release, NEEPC general secretary S Sanaton said that during the inspection visits no quarrying/excavation activities could be spotted other than at two-three spots.
The visit was followed by a discussion and adoption of various resolutions, including reaffirmation of the complete ban on sand and stone excavation from the river source of Ingourok and Kakmayai and initiation of punitive measures in case of violation of the resolution declared.
Sanaton stated that relocation of machines and transportation of the already excavated sand and stones within the month of September will be allowed on humanitarian ground.
However, it doesn't mean that fresh excavation will be permitted in the area, he clarified.
The secretary also urged the people to honour the resolution and extend support to initiatives of the com mittee for protection of the environment.
