Tamenglong DTO issues advisory against illegal vehicle modifications

Tamenglong, March 13 2026: The Office of the District Transport Officer (DTO), Tamenglong, has issued a public notice urging vehicle owners and drivers to strictly comply with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, particularly with regard to unauthorized vehicle modifications and the use of defective vehicles on public roads.

The i/c DTO of Tamenglong, Khumujam Niranjoy in a notice stated that Section 52 of the Motor Vehicles prohibits any alteration or modification of motor vehicles without prior approval from the competent authority.

The notice further highlighted that under Section 190 of the Act, driving vehicles in public places that are unsafe or defective is strictly prohibited.

This includes vehicles that do not comply with prescribed standards related to road safety, noise control and air pollution.

The DTO cautioned that failure to adhere to these provisions will attract fines and penalties as stipulated under the law.
