Imphal, January 13 2025:
Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi (LNKR) and Liangmai Pui Naga Ruangdi (LPNR) have expressed anguish and outrage over the barbaric and inhumane attack on six women and two men at Maremei Liangmai village in Senapati district on January 12, around 7 pm.
The Liangmai bodies, in a joint statement, alleged that the attack was carried out at the behest of one RK Remping, his grandsons, and members of NSCN-IM, adding that the victims, including innocent homemakers, were subjected to savage assault with use of cane sticks, weapon butts, and brutal kicks, leaving them gravely injured and traumatised.
The statement also claimed that the victims were further degraded through inhumane treatment and sexual harassment while being threatened with loaded weapons.
The perpetrators also barred the victims from access medical care, it maintained, adding that only after the intervention of the Naga People's Organisation (NPO) the victims were transported to Senapati district hospital for treatment.
One critically injured victim has since been transferred to Raj Medicity, Imphal for better care, it said.
LPNR and LNKR condemned the egregious act as gross violation of human rights and grave attack on the safety and security of women in the community, while demanding immediate arrest of RK Remping, his grandsons, and the NSCN-IM cadres involved.
The two organisations further demanded a fair and impartial enquiry into the incident and the provision of physical, emotional, and mental support to the survivors, asserting that violence against women is a crime against humanity and called for collective efforts to eradicate such acts.
Urging the state government, law enforcement agencies, Naga CSOs, and all the right-thinking individuals to condemn the attack and ensure justice is delivered, the Liangmai bodies expressed unwavering solidarity with the victims and their families, and vowed to pursue the matter until justice is served.
