Senapati, July 12 2024:
A dumper truck carrying school building construction materials heading towards Chingmai Khunou met with an accident, killing the driver.
The incident took place between Liyai Chilao and Vaisiichu, near Mark Dovei's Poultry along NH-102A on July 9 around 7 pm.
The dumper truck was coming from Dimapur with school building construction materials.
Villagers who use the route stated that the accident was a direct result of the negligence of the road construction company concerned.
Passengers traveling along NH-102A (Liyai Chilao to Phaibung) have reported facing risks and horrible experiences due to the company's total negligence.
The construction site was left in a dangerous state, making it very difficult for heavy vehicles to pass through safely.
Despite reminders to the project company to clear the landslide debris for the past two months, the area remained untouched.
As a result, the dumper truck (NL01AE2118) met with the accident, taking the life of driver R Sapukho, son of Th Rapri of Chingmei Khunou village, who left his wife and two sons in a state of complete helplessness and despair.
Additionally, 100 bags of cement and 300 CFT of sand (Deopani), meant for construction of the Upper Primary School at Chingmei Khunou Village, were lost.
The dumper truck, which fell several metres from the road, was completely damaged.
Chingmei Khunou villagers stated that the accident was due to the total negligence of the road construction company, which is now solely responsible for what happened.
The villagers mentioned the lack of barricades or warning signs, which is unsafe and an unprofessional practice of the company.
The construction company failed to clear the mudslide or landslide covering the original road for many days.
Additionally, there was no proper drainage, inadequate worker training, lack of traffic management, lack of regular maintenance, ignoring public feedback, and negligence of rules and regulations issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
