'Nurture orchid as a baby and make it commercialized for a livelihood option', said Dr.A.N.Rao, PI & Director, Orchid Research & Development Centre, Hengbung while emphasizing the various prospects of orchid cultivation for a livelihood.
Dr.A.N.Rao was speaking at the distribution ceremony of commercial hybrid orchid saplings to the progressive farmers of Sadar Hills, Senapati district today at FEEDS-KVK Sylvan conference Hall, Hengbung, Senapati.
Dr.Rao who attended the distribution ceremony as Chief Guest further lamented that those poor farmers in the district as well as the state as a whole should be promoted to take up orchid cultivation for cut flower production to make a livelihood option before adding that ORDC is always ready to help the poor farmers in whatever difficulties they face in this regard.

However, Dr.Rao continued that it is not a good thing to see that poor farmers neglected their occupation while urging them to them to ensure that they render their utmost interest and give due care to the orchid cultivation.
The distribution ceremony of high valued cut flower quality imported Dendrobium Hybrid saplings to progressive farmers has been organized by Orchid Research & Development Centre, Hengbung under the sponsorship of Department of Biotechnology, Govt.of India.
The saplings have been distributed to 10 selected women Self Help Group from different villages of Sadar Hills, Senapati district.
Dr..NJyotsna, P.C., KVK-Sylvan, Senapati asserted that Self Help Group in the state as a whole and Senapati in particular are declining rapidly while adding that there are also many Self Help Group which have already been defunct.
While urging the Self Help Group to cooperated and support one another to sustained and survive undyingly Dr.Jyotsna lamented that even banking sector are nowadays unwilling to give loan to SHG since there are many defaulter Self Help group in the bank.
J.G.Paul, Administrative Officer, FEEDS-KVK Sylvan, Hengbung, Senapati district pointed out that ORDC Hengbung has been working hard for more than five years in bringing varieties of orchid at our doorsteps from many other parts of the world while the centre have discovered many new orchids which have been not found before in the state and India as well as in the entire world.
