Maharaj Narasingh remembered on his death anniv

The 175th death anniversary of Maharaj Narasingh was observed by Manipur State Archaeology, Department of Art & Culture at Nungjeng Pukhri, Kangla Fort on Friday.
Maharaj Narasingh was a monarch of Manipur, who passed away on April 11, 1850 .
His death anniversary is observed annually on April 11 as a day of historical and cultural significance in Manipur.
He is remembered for his leadership during the First Anglo-Burmese War and his efforts in restoring Manipur's sovereignty.
His death anniversary remains a significant occasion for the people of Manipur to honour his legacy.

In his address as the chief guest, special commissioner (Art and Culture) M Joy Singh paid tribute to the revered and valiant Maharaja Narsingh on the occasion of his 175th death anniversary, noting that the state is honouring the brave heart with a ceremonial gun salute at his grave.
The commissioner then urged everyone to take this sacred and solemn day as an opportunity to pray to the Almighty and seek the blessings of the late Maharaja, so that peace and harmony may continue to prevail across the state.
Informing that efforts are being made to develop Kangla to a tangible cultural heritage including arranging a consultant for the same who would be arriving in Manipur by next week; Joy explained that approval has been received in principle for a major project to develop the Langthabal Palace, though nothing has been sanctioned for now.
He said that only some staff are assigned to clean the surroundings around Kangla, while activities related to the trees and shrubbery are done by the environment authorities.
"While there are plans to introduce tourist guides for Kangla, no action has been taken for now," he added.
Presided over by Director (Art and Culture) K Dinamani Singh, the ceremony was also attended by MNMC president RK Dhiren Singh as guest of honour along with other invitees and descendants of Maharaj" Narasingh.
The observance featured traditional rituals, including a performance by Shree Shree Govinda Jiu Jalakeli Pala led by Maharajkumari Hemamanjuri (Sanatombi), offering of floral tributes, guard of honour, gun salute, Tarpon Katpa at Nungjeng Pukhri, Kangla, etc .
