Jiribam, June 10 2024:
After tension broke out in Jiribam district on June 6, suspected Kuki militants again dismantled two bridges along the Jiri-Tipaimukh (JT) Road and torched a Forest office on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.
As such, fear has set in amongst the people and many are continuing to flee from the area to safer locations.
According to reports, suspected Kuki militants dislodged the metal plates from two bailey bridges in Harinagar and Latingkhal areas along JT toad.
However, the metal plates were reassembled by Assam Rifles and the villagers.
The suspected militants also set on fire the Makha Basti Forest Beat office on JT road.
On the other hand, villagers from Lamtai Khunou and nearby areas of Barak Circle are still taking refuge at Borobekra police station.
While additional CRPF teams have arrived, there is fear among the people after reports of armed Kukis heading towards the area via the waterways from Assam.
