Surgical outreach camp held in Tamenglong

Tamenglong, November 08 2014 : 'I knew the plight of the people in 1991 when I was posted as medical officer at Nungba, but I could not do much at that time.

In God's grace, I give today what I and my colleague have gained.

We are able to carry out such a mega surgical outreach camp.

This is the 17th time, I have conducted surgical outreach camp voluntarily and in Tamenglong district, it is the 7th.I wish to continue but I don't know how long I can continue.

Many people say that I am mad doctor going around in the remote area and done operation' .

This was stated by Dr..NJitendra, Associate Professor, Surgeon JNIMS Imphal who led the mega surgical outreach camp at district hospital, Tamenglong.

The mega surgery was organised by District Health Mission Society Tamenglong.

Doctors, technicians and nurses from JNIMS Imphal have voluntarily carried out the surgical camp.

Dr..NJitendra said that he is happy in his profession and want to continue.

He wants attention from the government as well as civil bodies, MLAs and even Deputy Commissioner to give more voice to the health sector.

The civil organisations should be proactive and demand for it to redress the plight of the poor people.

To the query Dr..NJitendra said that he and his team did not get any assistance to carry out such mega surgical outreach camp.

In an exclusive interview with Hueiyen Lanpao, Dr Chambo Gonmei, Chief Medical Officer Tamenglong stated that the surgical outreach camp was very helpful for the people as patient spend minimum expense for the operation.

"We are charging only Rs.8000 for major case, Rs.1000 for minor cases.

For pregnant woman and infant below one year old, we are doing it free of cost.

Whereas if the patient went to Imphal, they have to spend more than Rs.30 to Rs.40 thousands", Dr Chambo said.

The sick patient has to travel long journey, the ricks/ burden of patient has also reduced, he added.

19 major cases which were operated today are cholecystitis, cholelithiasis, appendicitis, hydrocele, inguinal hernia, ceasarian section, uterine fibroid and rectal polyp.

Another 9 minor cases were also operated successfully today.

The four specialist doctors who are posted in Tamenglong district hospital on two months rotation are Dr.Angkhong Rongmei, Surgeon; Dr.Ibochaoba Singh, Gynaecologist; Dr.Subaschandra Singh, Anaesthetist and Dr.Leini, Paediatrician.

They have joined at the district hospital Tamenglong on 6 November 2014 and left the station without informing the concerned authority, stated Dr Chambo Gonmei, Chief Medical Officer, Tamenglong.

'Even when the surgical outreach camp was going on at the District hospital, they did not care to participate.

Two doctors had showed their face at the hospital for sometimes, but the next day it was reported that all of them had left Tamenglong without any permission", stated Chief Medical Officer Tamenglong.

To the query Dr Chambo Gonmei said that in order to be fully functioning of district hospital including operation threater posting of specialist and blood banking is mandatory.

Sufficient posting of nurse and attendance also needed to run fully functioning district hospital and conduct necessary operation without any help from outside.

He also expressed his profound gratitude to Dr.N Jitendra and his team for conducting such mega surgical camp for seven times in Tamenglong voluntarily despite of their heavy duty.

The 7th surgery outreach camp comprise of Dr..NJitendra Association Prof.Surgery, JNIMs; Dr.NG.

The surgery outreach camp was very helpful to the poor people living at this district.

The people should be grateful to the chief medical officers and doctors who are working tireless for the welfare of the people.
