Imphal, June 08 2024:
It would not be entirely impossible for the aggrieved farmers/labourers to demand weapons to protect themselves if the state government cannot protect them, United Labourer Organisation, Manipur secretary (organisation) Sumanta Thokchom has remarked.
Addressing a press meet held at Manipur Press Club, here, on Saturday, Sumanta condemned the attempt being made to reignite the flames of conflict in the state.
He pointed out that the conflict has severely impacted the daily wage earners.
By attacking the farmers, Kuki terrorists are challenging the poor and it must be stopped immediately.
He then said that the central government should stop remaining silent and try to bring a solution at the earliest.
If the state government is unable to safeguard the farmers/labourers, it would not be long before the aggrieved farmers/labourers demand weapons to defend themselves, he remarked, while appealing to the labourers under the organisation to be vigilant while carrying on with their day to day activities.
Sumanta further said that the attempt by drug traffickers/cartels to forcefully take over the land is a continuation of the colonial rule.
This is a challenge to the integrity of the state, he stated, and urged all to stand united against the same.
