Imphal, November 06 2008: THE UNION Cabinet on economic affairs, CCEA has given approval for setting up integrated check posts at 13 identified entry points at the international border areas of the country including one at Moreh in Manipur at a total cost of rs 635 crores, a report received here said.

Mention may be made that the proposed integrated check post in border Moreh has been considered to be one of the main for the successful carrying out internal trades under the "Look east Policy" of India.

Prithivaraj Chavan, minister of state in the Prime Ministers' office while announcing today on the approval of the check post in a briefing to reporters in New Delhi has also said that the integrated check posts will be a sanitized zone with dedicated passenger and cargo terminals.

This will comprise adequate customs and immigrant facilities, security ad scanning equipments health and quarantine facilities, passenger amenities like waiting areas, restaurants, rest rooms, duty free shops, parking warehousing, containers yar, offices of transport and logistics companies, banks and financial services, dormitories for drivers and all related like service station, fuel stations, in asingle complex equipped with state-of-art of modern amenities, he said.

A Land Port authority of India is being established to undertake the construction, management and maintenance of integrated check posts for which bill is being introduced in the parliament.

It is pertinent to mention that the Manipur government has been trying to set up the said integrated check post in Moreh of the state since the last around six years.

Former industries N Mangi and present minister Y Erabot has on many instances visited the proposed site at Moreh for opening the check post for acquisition of land for the same.

Finally after the state government hikes the value of the land, land owners had agreed to the acquisition of the land.

Apart from this, a Central team had also recently inspected the proposed site and submitted its reports with a recommendation of the area as suited place such a check post.
