KVK Chandel organises field day

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Chandel organised a field day on rapeseed-mustard variety TS-38 under cluster front line demonstration on oilseeds at Unapal village, Chandel district on Thursday.
The objective of the field day was to showcase the improved technology and highlight the importance of utilising paddy fallows to enhance production, productivity, and economics while increasing the cropping intensity.
Informing this, a press statement issued by KVK, Chandel said that SMS (Agronomy) Dr Khumlo Levish of ICAR-KVK Chandel, highlighted the performance of Toria variety TS-38, a high-yielding variety with a duration of 90-95 days.
He stated that this variety is suitable in adverse drought and paddy-toria cropping sequence under late sown conditions (up to the first week of December) and is also tolerant to white rust and alternaria blight.
He mentioned that TS-38 can produce yield up to 12 quintal per hectare if the full package of practices is followed.
He further emphasised that the cluster frontline demonstration on-oilseeds is a unique approach under the National Food Security Mission to make the country self-sufficient in oil production.
Senior scientist & head of ICAR-KVK Chandel, Dr A Ameeta Devi urged farmers to utilise the paddy fallow areas to grow more oilseed crops like rapeseed-mustard to enhance production, productivity, and farmers' income.
A Scientist-Farmer interaction session was also conducted, attended by experts from ICAR-KVK Chandel, followed by a field visit which was witnessed by 34 farmers along with the staff of ICAR-KVK Chandel, the statement added.
