Imphal, September 03 2024:
Expressing deep concern over the attack on civilians using weaponised drones in the last few days, Taragi Cheisu said that the state government should discuss and take a firm decision against drone bombing by convening a special session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly and an all-political party meeting.
The decision taken by the state government as per the sentiment of the people should be made known clearly to the Centre so as to demonstrate existence of a popular government in the state, Cheisu chairperson advocate Khaidem Mani said in a media briefing held at its Khurai Ahongei office on Tuesday.
According to Mani, weaponised drones are generally used when countries are at war but the same were deployed to drop bombs in civilian populated areas from September 1 in Manipur, a day after Kukis organised a peace rally to 'break apart' the state on August 31 .
As some national media have started discussion on drone bombing and involvement of foreign hand in the Manipur crisis, the evolving situation merits that the state government discuss, adopt firm decision and convey to the Centre the state's stand.
In the nearly one and half year long conflict, both the state and the Centre remained si-lent and are yet to disclose their opinion on the crisis till date, he said.
As PM Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah had already affirmed to uproot terrorism from the soil of India, it is questionable if Manipur is not a part of India especially in the aftermath of the drone bombing by Kuki militants, who are under suspension of operation agreement signed With the government of India, he said and strongly condemned inaction of both the state and Central governments against terrorism.
Chipping in, Taragi Cheisu co chairperson Dr RK Nimai said that repeated drone attacks have created suspicion among the people on failure by the establishment, including the central security forces, to safeguard life and property of the people.
While opining that the central forces must have the expertise and technology to neutralise such audacious attacks, he described as disheartening that some central forces seem unconcerned about containing the violence.
Likening the situation in Manipur to a civil war and cautioning that there is remote chance of normalcy returning in Manipur in case the conflict protracts, he stressed the need for ac-.
cording seriousness to unrest situation.
To denounce failure by the establishment there is possibility of a mass movement and imminent unprecedented casualties considering tell-tale signs of the people losing their patience, RK Nimai said and advised the government to take decisive steps for tackling the situation before the mass movement starts.
